The Original Painting in Belgium

The original "St. Therese of Lisieux in the Garden," currently in Belgium.

St. Therese of Lisieux has helped me in a most wonderful and special way. It happened when my wife and I visited Lisieux during a holiday in Normandy. We visited Lisieux to burn a candle there for my wife's mother who passed away in 2005. I bought the book Story of a Soul there, and started reading it. One of the things that touched my heart very deeply was the way St. Therese prepared her first Holy Communion, and how she has experienced her first Holy Communion. I hadn't been to church for many years, except for a few times on occasion of a funeral. What I read in Story of a Soul, made me feel ashamed deeply about my own first Holy Communion when I was a child. I remember that I was mainly looking forward to the celebration afterwards and to getting presents. Therese's words caused a very deep desire in me to go back to the church and to have a new first Holy Communion myself and to prepare myself properly for it first. I didn't even ask for her help. Yet, she helped me! Her help has totally changed my life, it brought me to God and it made me love God with all my heart. I will always love and honor St. Therese for what she did for me. I will always remain grateful to her.

I share my devotion to St. Therese with Patricia Henderson. She and I met each other on eBay, when we both appeared to be interested in the same relic of St. Therese. After we met, we stayed in touch, and we became very good friends. I remember Patricia and I talked about a certain photograph of St. Therese, taken by her sister Celine. I find that particular photograph the most beautiful one taken of her. I remember that we talked about the fact that it was a black and white photograph and that it would have been so great to have a photograph in true colors. Patricia surprised me by making a painting of St. Therese for me as a birthday gift. She used my favorite photograph of St. Therese as an example.

This painting is such a great and wonderful gift! I appreciate it beyond words. When looking at St. Therese's face on the painting, it feels to me like she's really present in a certain way! Patricia and I thought it would be so great if other people would be able to enjoy this great painting too by means of a reproduction. Since Patricia didn't yet have a good scan of the painting, I sent it back to America, in order to have it professionally scanned, so that high quality reproductions of the painting can now be made. I missed my painting very much, when it was on its way to America and back. How happy I was when it returned safely to my place! I really love this painting. It is a heartwarming personal gift of my very dear friend Patricia! I am incredibly happy and pleased to have this beautiful painting in my house. I hope that everyone who will have a reproduction of this painting will be as happy with it as I am with the original painting.

I hope that everyone who will have a reproduction of this painting will love and honor St. Therese for everything she has done for other people since she was a child until now and for everything she will still do for people in the future." Peter Klostermann.
